Opening Night!

September 30, 2013

Our October 5 opening night at the GBPAC is right around the corner but there’s still time to find your perfect seat! This amazing program, inspired by the meeting of music and technology, features the talents of our players in Ravel’s mesmerizing Bolero and rarely-heard music by Beethoven. Iowa native Conor Hanick joins us for John Adams’ exuberant and jazzy Century Rolls for piano and orchestra, the perfect counterpoint to Jason Weinberger’s solo performance of New York Counterpoint by Steve Reich.

The concert will be preceded by our first-ever gala dinner, a sunset soirée at 5:00 pm in the spacious GBPAC lobby. Genre-shattering flute duo In Sterio will present their unique multimedia music in various locations throughout the lobby, setting the stage for our unforgettable performance. Tickets for the dinner are available for purchase online or through our office at 319-273-3373 and must be purchased by 4pm on Wednesday, October 2.

Performance week activities also include a special opportunity to meet our guest artist. On October 3 come hear pianist Conor Hanick rehearse John Adams’ exciting and challenging Century Rolls with wcfsymphony. Conor is one of today’s leading young explorers of living music and has a wealth of experience performing Adams’ rhythmically complex music. He also grew up just down the road in Iowa City! When the orchestra breaks Jason Weinberger will join in to answer your questions about the rehearsal process for our opening-night performance. No tickets or reservations needed, simply show up at the GBPAC Great Hall prior to 7:30 pm.
