Live from the Archive Ep 3: Black Composers
wcfsymphony believes that a serious commitment to promoting and establishing diversity in orchestral programming and music education is a critical part of our long term service to the Cedar Valley community. Pursuing this commitment through the performance of music composed by people of all backgrounds is one of the most impactful means for us to address the stultifying lack of diversity in orchestral programming and, by extension, systemic issues surrounding race and equity in society at large.
We feel that now is an ideal time to contribute to this ongoing effort, and in support of that idea we are excited to offer a very special installment of Live from the Archive. The show features wonderful wcfsymphony performances of historical and contemporary music by Black composers including Duke Ellington, William Grant Still, Florence Price, Daniel Roumain, J Dilla and others, and will also include a look into community work that promotes this music and broader themes of diversity and understanding. We hope this is a moving and thought-provoking listening experience!
