Music Librarian (Part-Time)
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Music Librarian to join our artistic team. This part-time position (10–15 hours per week) plays a vital role in preparing and managing all music used for orchestra performances throughout the season.
Working closely with the Artistic Director, Assistant Conductor, Personnel Manager, and Executive Director, the Music Librarian oversees the acquisition, preparation, distribution, and maintenance of music for both full orchestra and chamber orchestra concerts. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the artistic success of a professional regional orchestra.
Responsibilities include:
- Procuring and coordinating the rental and purchase of performance materials
- Preparing music for rehearsals and performances, including editing, numbering, marking, and bowing coordination
- Distributing and collecting music for musicians throughout each concert cycle
- Maintaining and cataloging the orchestra's music library
- Assisting with audition materials and musician communications
- Developing and monitoring the annual library budget
The ideal candidate will have:
- Academic training and/or performance experience in orchestral music
- Familiarity with orchestral music preparation and library workflows
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- A high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Attendance at selected rehearsals and concerts is expected.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position averaging 10–15 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be negotiated with the Executive Director and will fall within the $15-$20 per hour range.
