Having fun, doing well

November 14, 2013

Dee Vandeventer, the "V" of ME&V Advertising and Consulting and a long-time wcfsymphony Board member (pictured at left), was honored today with a National Philanthropy Day award recognizing a person whose lifetime or long-term achievements exemplify commitment and dedication toward helping society. The award is given by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, which represents 30,000 charities, charitable fundraisers around the world. The AFP Northeast Iowa Chapter advances and promotes philanthropy by empowering people and organizations to practice ethical and effective professional fundraising. In honor of Dee's award the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa made a generous gift to wcfsymphony in her name.

In addition to acting as our incoming board president Dee has used her inimitable spirit and energy to orchestrate fundraising campaigns for a nursing college auditorium, much-needed hospice homes, an acoustically perfect performing arts center and many other projects that enhance the lives of others. Anyone who knows Dee knows that she lives the line "having fun while doing well."

Here is what AFP had to say about Dee at today's ceremony in Cedar Falls:

Dee’s lifestyle epitomizes service. Her diverse involvement in community organizations has made her a known leader at many different organizations. Her tireless advocacy of fundraising and volunteerism push people to dig deeper into their passions. Her professional and personal lives are examples for everyone around her to connect in meaningful ways with their community to better themselves and the world around them.

Dee’s involvement in the community has resulted in real impact for many area organizations. Dee’s service is hardly passive as she is an active voice in leading change and improvements for long-term stability in area non-profits. She generously shares her professional expertise and actively takes the initiative to mentor the next generation of fundraising professionals.

We are thrilled for Dee and proud to call her one of our own!
