Concert: Independence Day Weekend

Sat, July 6, 2019 at 6:00 pm

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony will celebrate the Independence Day Weekend in Waterloo and Waverly this year with free outdoor concerts in those communities on July 6 and 7, 2019. Pauline Barrett Artistic Director and Conductor Jason Weinberger will lead the orchestra on these patriotic concerts.
On July 6th, the symphony will kick off the Mayor’s Fireworks evening with a full orchestra concert beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverloop Amphitheatre, 225 Commercial Street in downtown Waterloo. The lead sponsor for the concert is Buzz H.M. Anderson and Anderson Enterprises in Waterloo. Additional sponsorship is provided by Hannam Design in Cedar Falls. The Mayor’s Fireworks is a joint presentation by the City of Waterloo, Main Street Waterloo and the Waterloo Center for the Arts.
These concerts by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony will be patriotic tributes to America. Music for the evening will include The Stars and Stripes Forever, Armed Forces Medley, America the Beautiful, Stars and Stripes Forever and the 1812 Overture. The Waterloo concert will also include a performance by the winner of the 2019 Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition. This year’s winner is cellist Derek Hwang from North High School in Sioux City, IA. Members of the Youth Art Team will also be recognized for completion of their new mural along the Riverfront near the Waterloo Center for the Arts.
In case of inclement weather, the July 6th Waterloo concert will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. Weather relocation information will be available on the concert dates by calling 319-273-3373 or by visiting wcfsymphony.org.
