Seeking Iowa composers
We are thrilled to announce a new commissioning opportunity in conjunction with our friends at the Iowa Composers Forum. During the 2016-17 season we will continue our efforts to highlight the work of Iowa artists on a variety of concerts featuring the full orchestra, chamber orchestra, and smaller instrumental groups. One of these performances will feature a new work by an ICF member, composed specifically for the occasion and in collaboration with Jason and our orchestra.
Process:
All ICF members in good standing are invited to submit a portfolio of not more than 2 pieces that represent their best work. They need not be for large ensemble. Scores should be accompanied by recordings (no midi realizations, please).
Scores and recordings should not bear the name of the composer or contain any identifying marks.
Additionally, composers are asked to submit a letter of introduction, which should include a brief program note for each submitted composition, along with a current resume or CV.
A panel of wcfsymphony musicians will review the submissions and choose a single composer to commission for the 2016-17 season.
Scores, recordings, letter and resume/CV are due via e-mail by January 1, 2016, to the address below. Scores, letter, and resume/CV should be in pdf format. Recordings may be submitted in mp3 format if under 10MB; if over 10MB, please submit links rather than files.
The selected composer will be notified no later than March 1, 2016. A contract will then be written that details payment schedule, deadlines, and scope of the new work, which may range from chamber music to full orchestra. The new work will be premiered by wcfsymphony musicians at a public concert during the 2016-17 season.
The commission fee will be negotiated between the selected composers and the wcfsymphony, and will be at least $1000, with additional funding contingent on successful grant applications.
